Tree Service in Gainesville, VA

Removal, pruning to ANSI A300 standards, cabling, and stump grinding. Performed or supervised by a certified arborist, cleaned up like we were never there.

One local tree company, one standard

A tree service here takes down the trees that have to go, prunes the ones worth keeping, and grinds the stumps that are left. An ISA Certified Arborist looks at every job, not a call center.

MB Homestead Services arborist roped into the canopy of a large hardwood tree in Northern Virginia

Anyone with a chainsaw can drop a tree in an open field. The trees people actually call about lean over roofs, driveways, fences, and power drops. Those come down in pieces, on ropes, in a planned sequence. Every job ends with your place looking better than we found it.

Tree removal

We take down dead ash, storm-cracked oaks, overgrown silver maples crowding houses, and everything in between. Controlled dismantling with ropes and rigging where structures are in range. After Northern Virginia wind and ice storms we clear downed trees and hanging limbs, prioritizing anything on a structure or blocking a driveway.

Tree trimming and pruning

Good pruning is invisible for years and pays off for decades. Bad pruning is forever. ANSI A300 is the national specification for how trees should be pruned: where cuts are made, how much live crown can come off, and what stays. Every pruning job we do follows it. Tree trimming covers deadwood over roofs, walkways, driveways, and play areas, and limbs off the house, the shed, and the driveway, without ruining the tree's integrity.

Cabling and bracing

Mature oaks and maples with split trunks or heavy co-dominant leaders can often be saved with a properly installed support system instead of removal. It preserves shade, property value, and a tree that took eighty years to grow.

Stump grinding

A stump is a monument to a problem you already paid to solve. We grind stumps below the surrounding grade, deep enough to seed grass, lay sod, or plant over the spot. Grinding is often quoted alongside a removal, but we also come out for stump-only jobs, including the old stumps the last company left behind.

Questions we hear a lot

Do you really have a certified arborist on every job?
Yes. Pierre Melton, the owner, is an ISA Certified Arborist (MA-5911A) and is on site for tree work. That certification is the difference between pruning that helps a tree and cutting that slowly kills it.
How much does tree removal cost in Northern Virginia?
It depends on the size of the tree, what it can reach if something goes wrong, and how hard it is to get equipment to it. A small open-yard tree and a large oak over a roof are very different jobs. Estimates are free, and a text with photos usually gets you a fast, accurate answer.
When is the best time to prune trees in Virginia?
Winter dormancy is prime time for most hardwoods, when structure is visible and disease pressure is low. Deadwood and hazards, though, should come out whenever they are found. For spring flowering trees, wait until after bloom.
Do you haul everything away?
Cleanup is part of the job: brush chipped, wood removed or left cut for firewood if you want it, and the area raked. On large removals we practice tidy groundskeeping and leave the site as clean as possible.
