Irrigation & Drainage

Half the lawn problems in this county are water problems: too little in July, too much everywhere else. We handle both directions.

Irrigation: installation and maintenance

A properly designed irrigation system waters deeply, evenly, and early, then gets out of the way. We install systems zoned for how your property actually grows, turf separate from beds, sun separate from shade, and maintain existing systems season to season.

  • System design and installation for lawns and landscape beds.
  • Seasonal maintenance so heads spray turf instead of driveways.
  • Adjustments that pair with the lawn program, like watering schedules after seeding or applications.

Drainage: the unglamorous fix that changes everything

Our clay soil does not forgive bad drainage. Downspouts dumping at the foundation, low spots that stay spongy for days, hillside runoff cutting channels through beds. Standing water suffocates turf roots, breeds mosquitoes, and works toward your basement.

  • French drains and channel drains that move water where it should go.
  • Downspout extensions and burial to get roof water away from the house.
  • Grading and swale work to stop water from pooling where it kills grass.
  • Wet-area planting strategies when moving the water is not practical.

If part of your lawn dies every summer and another part squishes every spring, that is not two problems. It is one water problem, and it is fixable. Show us photos and we will tell you what is going on.

Questions we hear a lot

My yard has standing water after every rain. What fixes that?
It depends on where the water comes from and where it can go. Sometimes the fix is as simple as burying downspout extensions. Sometimes it is a French drain or regrading a low spot. Photos of the yard during or right after rain tell us most of the story, so text them over.
How often does an irrigation system need attention?
At least seasonally: spring startup, mid-season head and coverage checks, and winterization matter in our freeze-thaw climate. Neglected systems quietly water sidewalks and drown one zone while another bakes.
Is irrigation worth it for a fescue lawn?
A fescue lawn in the transition zone survives July on deep, consistent water. If summers keep browning out a lawn you invest in the rest of the year, irrigation is what protects that investment. Combined with program feeding and fall overseeding, it closes the loop.
